Detox your Skin through Exfoliation
Caring for our skin is one of the most important steps in helping our bodies to eliminate toxins. Did you know that the skin is the largest and most important eliminative organ in the body and is responsible for 1/4 of the body’s detoxification each day? It can eliminate over one pound of waste acids each day in adults, most of it through the sweat glands. The skin is known also as our third kidney and receives one third of all the blood circulated in the body. The skin is the last to receive nutrients in the body, yet the first to show signs of imbalance or deficiency.
The use of skin care products that are full of synthetic chemicals is not good. These chemicals can be absorbed into the circulatory system may contribute to toxic load inside the body. Most people may not feel the ill effects of chemical additives instantly, because they accumulate over time. It is important to clean your skin using natural skin care products. Use a mild, high quality natural exfoliant on the face. Wear clothes with natural fibers instead of synthetic. Natural fibers like cotton and wool can absorb toxins while synthetic fibers do not absorb toxins. Good nutrition is also important for the skin. Our skin is mainly fat so it is wise to eat high quality fats with natural origin. Also drink plenty of high quality water to help flush toxins from the body.
To enable the skin to release more toxins away from your body, exfoliate using a natural product, a loofah sponge or use an old fashioned method of dry skin brushing. When you exfoliate, you are removing oils and dead skin cells which plug the pores. Unclogged skin pores are more efficient in releasing toxins away from the body. The more I delve into my wellness journey, the more fascinated I become with detoxifying and with the skin. I didn’t always understand that the skin is an organ – the largest one, and that chemicals can pass through it into the body as well as pass out as a way of detoxifying. Many skin conditions from rashes to acne are signs of the body trying to rid itself of toxic waste. The more I learn the more I am trying to be kind to my skin and help it to do it’s job. It really starts from the inside with good, clean food and water. I am loving the exfoliating process. It makes me feel good and clean. Many old-fashioned remedies are out there, that have been proven with use over time. I love the dry skin brushing, but my hectic schedule doesn’t always allow for it, so I am happy that I have a good exfoliant to use during my shower on those crazy days.
